Holy Trinity in sculpted and polychrome wood, Germany, circa 1500

Sculpted and polychrome wood Trinity, in the round, the back partially hollowed out.
It is represented here as a “Throne of Grace”. In this initial composition, which was probably o created in France in the 12th century, God the Father holds his Son before him. From the 13th century onwards, the body of the Son rests on the Father’s lap in an arrangement inspired by the Pietàs.
It fulfills the mystical desire to express the pain of the Father with greater force.
