Large bronze (0.68m) with a coin patina “La pensée”, signed H.GREBER, foundry stamp Thiébaut frères.
A student of Antonin Mercié at the Beaux-Arts, he was part of a tradition of ceramists, sculptors and plate-makers whose works can be found throughout France.
The Thiébaut frères foundry was one of the most important art foundries in France during the 19th and 20th centuries. Their works can be seen all over the world, and particularly in Paris, where they adorn dozens of squares and gardens, including the Place de la République, the Place de la Nation, the Place Vendôme and the Place aux Cygnes (a reduction of the Statue of Liberty).
In 1901, the foundry was sold to Gasne.
