Fromentin was one of the major artists of orientalist painting and his teachers were JCJoseph Rémond and Louis-Nicolas Cabat.
First trip to Algeria in 1846, where he filled his notebooks with sketches of the landscapes and inhabitants of North Africa.
From 1847 to 1876, he sent numerous works to the Salon.
Museums: Nantes, La Rochelle, Douai, Chantilly, Reims, Brest, Oran, Paris (Louvre, Orsay).
