A rather comical scene taking place in an English neo-Gothic mansion. A bearded, rather chubby man dressed in 16th-century attire is courting a wealthy lady dressed in rich clothing and wearing a beaded hat with a plume. She seems to pay little attention to her suitor’s advances, looking at the audience and smiling slightly. In the background, on the right, a page can be seen running towards them, looking panicked, no doubt to warn of danger: the imminent arrival of the husband? There are many details in the background, including the painting above the figures.

Probably English school from the first half of the 19th century.

Modern frame with a dent or fine tear above the door, not affecting the figures, well restored with fine reinforcement strips on the back.
