15th Century Polychrome and Parcel-Gilt Stucco Sculpture of Madonna and Child. Large and beautiful, rare sculpture of Virgin and Child, in relief, executed in painted and gilt stucco, resting on a base framed by two winged angels surrounding a garland of flowers. The stucco technique, made of gypsum, dates back to antiquity and was a great success in the workshops of Italian sculptures in the Renaissance. Original gilt, polychromy retouched. Tuscany, Italy, 15th century. A similar work follower of Lorenzo Ghiberti (Florence, 1378 – Florence, 1455) is exposed in the Museum of the Louvre in Paris France.
