Portraits of 14 richly ornamented queens or empresses, and a study of jewelry and bracelets, circa 1925.
The artist represented Egypt, Rome, Greece, Byzantium, the Middle Ages, and the 19th century.
Brown ink and sepia wash, pencil, signed lower right HEROUARD.
Chéri Herouard (1881-1961), whose real name was Chéri-Louis-Marie-Aimé HAUME, French illustrator of the 19th and 20th c. After having illustrated children’s books, he worked for many years for the newspaper “La vie Parisienne”, or other magazines such as “le sourire”, “Fantasia”, or “La baïonette”.
Under the pseudonym of Heric, he realized a set of erotic drawings.
Ours is to be compared to “medieval hairstyles and costumes”, dated 1923
