Young Woman Holding a Mirror – Ch. Louis Muller (1815-1892)

Oil on canvas depicting a beautiful young woman holding a mirror, a child playing on her shoulder, amusing himself by covering his blond hair with the young woman’s jet-black hair, and playing with her pearl necklace.
In the background, behind the parapet of a balcony, hollyhocks.
Signed lower right “Ch.Muller”.
A pupil of Coignet and Gros, he was a historical painter, genre painter, portraitist and decorator.
He won several medals at the 1834, 1838, 1846, 1848 and 1855 Salons.
He was a member of the admission committee for the 1878 World Exhibition.
65×50 cm unframed.
