French painter and litographist, he was one of the representatives of the 1st School of Paris (1905-1939).
His vocation was revealed very young and he was always supported by his parents, who were bookbinders. He assisted his father from the age of 14 while having an easel in the back of the store that his father set up in Paris.
1925-1929, Institut of Contemporary Esthetics, student of Paul Bornet. He integrated the practices of drawing, engraving, watercolor, gouache and ceramics, in addition to oil painting.
In 1948-49, he entered into a relationship with the Durand-Ruel gallery in New York. He illustrates many books including those of Kessel, Montherlant, and Giono. He exhibited at the Salon des Tuileries (1934-1938 and 1945-1951), the Salon d’Automne (1934-1938, and from 1945), in Lausanne, Cambridge, Budapest, Sofia, Bucharest, Istanbul, Nice, Stockholm, etc…
Museums: Paris, Rennes, Libourne, Nevers, Saint-Etienne, Dunkirk, Lyon, Le Havre, Rodez, Menton.
At the back, the address of “la cité Montmartre-aux-artistes”, 189 rue Ordener, where he settled from 1951.
Gérald SCHURR said of him in 1996: “A lot of plastic invention, colors in the flashes of gem, a palette in the top of the range, gone up in the warm tones, a hard and solid graphics which took its sorce in the cubism”.
